Overview
Investors' rights in Singapore are protected by a strong legal and regulatory framework that ensures transparency, fairness, and confidence in the capital markets. Key protections include the right to information, requiring companies listed on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) to disclose relevant information promptly, and shareholder rights, such as voting on significant corporate matters.
Financial regulators oversee the securities market, while the Securities Investors Association Singapore (SIAS), established 25 years ago, advocates for investor rights and educates retail investors. In celebration of SIAS' 25th Anniversary, SIAS has commissioned a joint research study with SIT and SUSS to look into how investor rights and behaviour in Singapore have evolved over the past decade, track the progress of investors’ rights in Singapore and provide recommendations for improving investor protection and encouraging shareholder activism in Singapore.
